Course guide: every track in Drone Sim

Drone Sim has eight courses, from a quiet meadow for your first hover to a 2.4-kilometre bay in Viet Nam. Most of them have two routes: Full, the whole course, and Sprint, a shorter cut for quick races and leaderboard attempts. On the outdoor courses you can also choose the time of day: Auto, dawn, noon, golden hour or dusk.
Every course can be raced against bots, raced online, flown as a Time Trial against your own best ghost, or explored in Free Fly with no rings at all.
| Course | Setting | Full | Sprint | Time of day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Training Field | Open meadow, daylight | 3 rings | – | Fixed |
| Night Loft | Indoor loft at night | 12 rings | 6 rings | Fixed (night) |
| Toy Town | Toy town by day | 22 rings | 14 rings | Fixed (day) |
| Hoi An by Night | Lantern-lit old town | 20 rings | 12 rings | Fixed (night) |
| Ha Long Bay | Limestone islands at sea | 48 rings | 13 rings | Selectable |
| City | Downtown towers | 18 rings | 6 rings | Selectable (dusk by default) |
| Alpine Valley | Mountains, forest, lake | 16 rings | 8 rings | Selectable (golden hour by default) |
| Infinite World | Endless countryside | 10 rings | 8 rings | Selectable |
Training Field
An 80 by 80 metre meadow with three big rings and a 40 m ceiling: nothing to hit and nowhere to get lost. Your first launch starts here with a step-by-step tutorial that teaches arming, hovering, turning and landing. Come back whenever you change flight mode or drone; three rings are enough to feel the difference.
Tip: before your first Angle or Acro flight, practise holding a steady hover at head height for ten seconds. It is the single most useful FPV skill.
Night Loft
A tight indoor course in a brick loft at night: twelve rings, ceiling beams and a ceiling fan whose spinning blades really are solid. It is short, technical and unforgiving of wide lines, which makes it the best place to learn precise throttle control. Dome and Pip, with their prop guards, survive the walls far better than open-prop quads.
Tip: keep your speed down through the first rings and watch the fan's rhythm before you commit to passing it.
Toy Town
A bright, colourful town built from toy-like buildings: twenty-two rings down the avenues, around downtown and over the towers. The streets are wide and the sky is open, so it is the friendliest outdoor course for a first real race. The Sprint route keeps fourteen of the rings.
Tip: the rings over the towers reward a smooth climb started early, not a hard pull-up at the last moment.
Hoi An by Night
Our homage to Hoi An's old town, with its real street plan taken from OpenStreetMap: twenty rings through lantern-lit streets, along the river and through the covered Japanese bridge. Around a thousand lanterns light the course. The river is part of the challenge: touch the water and your run ends. Read how we built it in Hoi An by Night: a real old town from OpenStreetMap.
Tip: the streets are narrow by drone standards. Fly them in chase camera first to learn the turns, then switch to FPV.
Ha Long Bay
The largest course: a 2.4 by 2.4 kilometre stretch of emerald water and limestone towers, laid out from the real islands around Bồ Hòn, Hang Luồn and Ti Tốp. The Full route is a long tour of forty-eight rings between the towers, past the Đỉnh Hương "incense burner" rock; the Sprint route keeps thirteen. As in Hoi An, the water ends your run. The making-of is in Building Ha Long Bay in code.
Tip: skimming low over the water feels fast but leaves no margin. Fly a metre or two higher until you know the line.
City
Downtown at dusk: a 1.2 km city of towers with eighteen rings around the buildings and under skybridges, and traffic in the streets below. The Sprint route is the last six rings, a fast, flowing finish. The City is also the course for Free Fly in the trial of the Meta Quest version.
Tip: the skybridges come up fast. Look one ring ahead, not at the ring you are about to pass.
Alpine Valley
A 3 by 3 kilometre valley of mountains, pine forest and a glacial lake, with sixteen rings and a 400 m ceiling. It is the course for speed and big lines: long straights, climbs over ridges and dives towards the lake. The long-range Condor is at its best here.
Tip: carry speed into the climbs by tilting forward before you add throttle, the way real pilots do.
Infinite World
Endless countryside generated from a seed. Each world has its own eight-character code, shown as two groups of four, such as ABCD-EFGH. Share the code and a friend flies exactly the same world and route; the game keeps your best time for each code. A built-in checksum catches typos, so a mistyped code is rejected rather than giving you a different world.
Tip: Infinite World is the best place to practise flying a long, smooth line over unfamiliar ground, which is what real FPV flying outdoors is like.
Which course first?
- Training Field with the tutorial, in GPS mode.
- Toy Town, still in GPS mode, for your first full race.
- Night Loft in Angle mode, to learn precision.
- City and Hoi An by Night, once you can hold a line.
- Ha Long Bay and Alpine Valley in Acro, for speed.
Our flight modes guide explains when to move from GPS to Angle and Acro, and the drone guide helps you pick the right quad for each course.
